The Azusa Street Mission was an abandoned former livery stable that was rented out after the house the participants were meeting in became too small and the porch caved in as a result of the number of people standing on it to hear the message. William Seymour, the man credited with leading the revival was the son of slaves who received his education by sitting in the hallway or behind a curtain to hear the lessons offtered at the Bible School run by Charles Parham.
